La Ceramica e il Progetto 2018: Maurizio Varratta wins the award in the institutional category with the Prysmian headquarters building

The MAT Moretto Architettura firm’s Collegio Einaudi also receives an honourable mention

The awards ceremony of La Ceramica e il Progetto (Ceramic Tiles and Architecture), the architecture competition open to the best Italian and foreign projects using Italian ceramic tiles, held for the seventh time this year, took place at the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice on Wednesday 4 July.

The prize in the institutional category went to the new headquarters of the Prysmian Group in Milan designed by architect Maurizio Varratta,which features a fabric-look custom collection by Marazzi.

The unusual, softly woven visual texture of the stoneware collection used for the project provides a patterned frame in a coal grey colour inside the glazed conservatory areas and around the planted or parquet floored zones.

The Jury of Mario Cucinella, Fulvio Irace, Aldo Colonetti and Confindustria Ceramica also awarded an honourable mention to the Collegio Universitario Einaudi, Turin, built by MAT Moretto Architettura using three different Marazzi collections.

Two stone-look materials, Stonehenge and Soho, the latter of which won an honourable mention at the 2010 ADI Compasso D’Oro, dialogue with the Treverk wood-look stoneware, and the three coverings harmonise attractively with the large windows and the different colours that distinguish the various areas of the college.
